WALKS

Teulada-Moraira offers the possibility to wander the sign-posted walks that permit nature lovers to get to know the beauties of the area from a different perspective. With benign temperatures through most of the year one can really enjoy this alternative activity.

Dowload walks Guide

01. Castellons

Calle Calvo Sotelo will take us to the camino dels Castellons. We pass the Moli del Castellons, near a small wood of pine trees, one of the five remaining windmills in this area.
We head to the urbanisation Castellons Vida, the highest point of our walk, offering spectacular views from the terraces which step down all the way to the sea

02. La Font de L'Horta y Benimarco

Starting from Avenida de Mediterráneo, via the camino de San Miguel, we will pass the Creueta de l' Ave Maria ( a cast iron cross with an inscription in ceramic). The cross indicates the spot where , according to tradition, St Vicente Ferrer halted and blessed the area to prevent the plague and the wrath of pirates from overcoming the population .
Taking the lane to the right, we will come to the Font de L'Horta with its two water outlets and a small watering place. This fountain is much ejoyed because of its tranquility and natural beauty.
From there  we continue on the Cami del Boticari, starting behind this font. On arriving at the Cami del Pouet del Moro, we turn to the right passing in front of the well which dates back to the middle ages, until we reach the road to Benimarco, which is a typical rural hamlet shared by both Teulada and Benisa. Along this walk we will see many worksheds, typical of this region.
We finish up our tour in the square where the hermitage of Sant Jaume lies. The architectural characteristics of the building, with a single nave, are comparable to those  of teh so-called "conquest" churches. In the square, there is a nice balcony with a great view from the sea.
We suggest to come back to Teulada via Camí de Sant Miquel. In that case we have to walk through Camí de Buseit, which starts by the hermitage and finishes on the urbanisation "La Coma dels Frares, where we marvel at the beauty of the countryside.

03. Font Santa

Font Santa HermitageFrom Teulada, on the main road to Moraira, after only a few metres we can turn to the right to the Cami de les Rotgetes, that joins on Camí de la Sisca.
This peaceful route will take us eventually back to the main road, but just before crossing the road a small fountain with its old watering place will be showed, its "la Font de la Jana" .Here, according to folklore, on the night of 23rd of June appeared a mysterious fairy, " La Joanaina ", who granted wishes in exchange for carrying her on our shoulders, the only condition being not to turn to look at her. This legend possibly originated in pagan traditions of old times.
From there we will have to cross the road  to reach La Font Santa. This fountain owes its miraculous origin to the hand of Saint Vicente Ferrer, who brought forth drinking water for the first time to relieve the thirst of his sister Constanza. Be there drought or heavy rain, water always flows. This pecularity has made it a point of pilgrimage. An hermitage dated on the 19th century is attached to the fountain as well as the the hermit's dwelling, of the same period, where until recently a family lived. This family was in charge of looking after the hermitage and fountain.A popular festivity is held there, every year,  the second week of July .

04. Benimeit

From Teulada, along the Camino del Pas, we can enjoy a pleasant drive or stroll on foot discovering the architectural characteristics of this region, the Marina Alta, the riuraus as well as the perfectly constructed bancales or terraces that used to be cultivated to produce the main wealth of the area, wine and almonds.
The typical rural hous tend to have a rectangular floor plan and a doublepitched roof. There is also a corral and a covered patio, a well or cistern, an oven for baking bread, and the Riu-rau, whichin earlier times was used as a means of protection from the inclement weather during the grape scalding to make raisins.
Here, looking to the north-east we can see the villages of Benitachell and Jávea, with the Montgo and the Mediterranean in the background. On arriving at calle Benimarfull, we are amazed to discover a plateau that opens up some of the best views of the area. To the right along calle Benigànim, also offers us great views.Via camino Fanadix towards the sea we arrive at Cala Andrago

05. El Cap D'Or

(Approximate distance: 1,5 km / Estimate time:  One hour there and back)
We begin this route at the end of the beach of El Portet from the Hermitage San Juan Bautista probably built at the middle of the nineteenth century.
From the avenida del Portet on our left we will take  the calle Puerto Lápice to calle Puerto de Alcudia, at the end of which we start on foot. Signs will mark the path to the watch tower. On clear days it is possible to see Moraira Bay and as far as the Peñon de Ifach, Albir; Sierra Aitana and Ibiza to make the walk well worthwhile.

06. Barranco de la Cala

(Approximate distance: 4,1 km / Estimate time: 3 h and 15 min there and back)
This route runs through one of the most beautiful and striking areas of the municipality ending at the beach of La Cala. We have to start this walk from Cami de la Viuda towards Calle Canario, the path then being signposted. Half way we must take the right fork, the path becoming more difficult and care should be taken. A recommended alternative is to the left just before the beach, a steep climb to the flat plateau from which we can reach the beach of Moraig of Benitachell.
