NATURAL SPACES

PLACES OF ENVIRONMENTAL INTEREST

CAP D'OR: is a narrow peninsula that projects almost 1 km out to sea.  It supports a naturally rich and diverse vegetation.

From 2002 it has formed part of a network of micro reserves of fauna of the Comunitat Valenciana.

Some of the species to highlight are:  "aliaga marina", "silene de ifach" , "el lentisco", "el palmito", and rosemary.

As well as the fauna  the presence of rabbits, foxes, hedgehogs, badgers, stone marten, field rats and birds such as hawk, swift and partridge is of great interest.

This area has been inhabited since prehistoric times. Evidence of this are the valuable archeological findings of the Paleolithic period, found in the Cave Cova de la Cendra and also the remains of an Iberian village.

THE CAVE "COVA DE LES RATES":

This is a cavity  in the Cap d'Or area formed by the erosive action of the water against the limestone rocks.

From 2004 it has been declared  a WILD FAUNA RESERVE by the Consellería de Territorio y Vivienda de la Generalitat Valenciana,  being one of the most important refuges of different species of bats ("rates penades").

It is also an area of archaeological interest relating to the bronze and Iberian ages.

LA MARJAL DEL SENILLAR: (MARSHLAND)

This is a humid coastal area adjacent to the l'Ampolla beach, comprising three different environments: lagoons, banks and dunes each with different species of flora and fauna. 

In 2004 it was declared a WILD FAUNA RESERVE, because it houses a population of fish named "fartet"  in danger of extinction.

LA SOLANA DE CANOR AND LA SERRA CEL.LETES

Access is gained from the N-332. It is a mountainous area with a maximum height of 402m, an area of 130 hectares of rugged scenery.

Declared a Plant Microreserve in 2006..

LA VALL DE LES SORTS

This is an agricultural valley that is of importance due to its vine crops (roman muscatel variety), with an impressive landscape and of environmental value.  It has been declared Protected Landscape since 2006.
